Linda Blair, who was just five years old when she was born, needed grown accustomed to being placed in the spotlight. At first, as a child model and later as an actor, she was chosen for the part of Regan the girl who was possessed, out of 600 candidates, for The Exorcist, (1973). Linda soon rose to global fame, and was awarded the Golden Globe, and seemed poised to get the Academy Award for that role however, when the film's leaks revealed details of how certain aspects of the character weren't done by the actress herself (the demon voice was recorded in the voice of Mercedes McCambridge, and eight seconds of a stunt model were utilized) this dream fell apart and that, along with the disappointment likely came the first blow towards what appeared to be the beginning of an A-list career. The next couple of years she didn't have any trouble getting the lead role in a range of pictures, including the highly successful television films Born Innocent (1974) (the most watched TV show that year) as well as Sarah T. - Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic (1975), as well as the Exorcist sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977). In 1977, she purchased cocaine on social pressure when she was 18, this led to her arrest and sentence of three years probation. Linda's time as a star in Hollywood was cut to B films, and occasionally television appearances, including her much-publicized arrest for the possession of drugs.
